LivaltaCell HY40 can help alleviate pathogen pressure of Salmonella and E.coli

Aleksandra Szopinska

Simple complexity: our hydrolysed yeast Livalta™Cell HY40 is all about simple solutions to complex problems. We have shown many of its different functionalities before. This time, we wanted to understand how well Livalta™Cell HY40 performed in terms of pathogen binding of Salmonella and E.coli in comparison to other common yeast-based products available in the market.

How does yeast bind pathogens? Most pathogenic Salmonella and E.coli strains possess a range of binding mechanisms that enable them to attach to the animal gut. Yeast components like mannan-oligosaccharides (MOS) can function as an alternative binding site for the bacteria. Therefore, an increase in bacteria binding by a yeast component may restrict bacteria adhesion to the gut. With that in mind, we carefully select the yeast raw material and target the hydrolysation process for our Livalta™Cell HY40.

Our results were: Livalta™Cell HY40 can

  • reduce bacteria adhesion to the animal gut (Figure 1)
  • effectively bind 100% (or all) of the tested 20 key Salmonella strains (Figure 2)
  • effectively bind 90% of the tested 20 key E.coli strains (Figure 3)
